Of all the races in this election season, one of the most hotly contested is the race for the five seats — four 4-year terms and one 2-year term — on the Lyons-Brookfield School District 103 Board of Education.

On Tuesday, March 10 voters will have a chance to see and hear some or all of the candidates sound off on issues facing the school district during a candidate forum moderated by the LaGrange Area League of Women Voters.

The forum will run from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gym at George Washington Middle School, 4100 Joliet Ave. in Lyons. Attendees are asked to enter the school through Door 19.

Anyone wishing to submit questions for the candidates can do so by sending them via email to forumquestion2015@gmail.com.

Twelve people, representing want amounts to three separate slates of candidates, have filed to run in the District 103 race.

One of the slates, comprising Catherine “Katie” Broderick, Michael “Mike” Bennett, Jorge “Rene” Torres, Coleen “Dawn” Shipbaugh and Gregory “Greg” Ramirez, are backed Lyons Village President Christopher Getty.

Another slate consists of longtime District 103 school board member Joanne Schaeffer, Antonie “Toni” Parker, Earl Johnson, Lori Schuler and Jacqueline McDonnell.

The third slate, which has the backing of District 103 school board President Sharon Anderson, includes a pair of incumbent board members Consuelo “Connie” Esparza and Kristen Goodman, who were appointed to the board in 2013.

Johnson and Broderick are running against one another for the 2-year term.

District 103 includes Lyons, Stickney, Forest View McCook and the southeast quarter of Brookfield.
