Brookfield resident Kaila Baker placed second in the Miss IDTA Flag Soloist category at the Illinois Drill Team Association State Finals on Feb. 15 in Springfield and was part of the Lyons Township High School Winter Guard team named state champion in the AAA Tall Flags competition.

It was the first state championship for the Winter Guard. The Tall Flag category requires the use of any flag with a staff longer than 3.5 feet as the focal point of the performance. Baker is one of the Winter Guard's captains.

"Kaila not only is a wonderful performer, she is a great leader," said the team's coach Bridget Dominick, an alumni member of the LTHS drill team. "She knows how to push the team in a positive direction and make everyone feel like a star."

At the same competition, for the third consecutive year, the varsity poms team were state champs in the AAA Lyrical Dance category and placed fourth overall in the Pom/Dance category. The JV poms took second in Lyrical Dance as well.
