James W. Zak, 76, of North Riverside, died July 13, 2020.

Mr. Zak was a longtime North Riverside resident who was retired from his career as a pressman for the U.S. Treasury Department.

He was an active member of Mater Christi Church and faithfully attended North Riverside Village Board meetings, often accompanied by his wife, Myra, who survives him.

Mr. Zak penned many letters that appeared on the editorial page of the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark, often uplifting anecdotes about events in his own life or about people who were kind and made an impact on others.

The letters were always hand-written and Zak personally delivered them to the newspaper offices.

He was the husband of Myra; the father of Keith (Laura), James (Lynn), Mark (Holly) Zak, Serene (Sal) Russo, Brian (Angela) and Christopher (Julie) Zak; the step father of Robert (Lisa) Morales; the grandfather 15; and the brother of Frederick (Joanne), Alan (Linda) and the late Nannette (late Bernard) Richert.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 17 at 10 a.m. at Mater Christi Church, 2431 10th Ave, North Riverside.

Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home, Riverside, handled arrangements.
